Fairytale Horror

A subgenre that strips away the sanitized endings of classic folklore to expose the ancient dread underneath.

The thrill of the familiar turning sinister. It's the dread of knowing the rules of a fairytale world are absolute, and that any transgression, however small, will be met with a gruesome, inevitable punishment. The horror lies in the moment the story refuses to resolve into comfort, leaving only the ancient dread underneath.
