Centuries after arriving on the atevi homeworld, humanity lives in a fragile peace, protected by a treaty and an island refuge. The series follows the human Paidhi, an ambassador and translator, as he navigates the complex and often violent atevi society. The reappearance of the lost starship Phoenix introduces a new, powerful element, threatening to destabilize the existing political landscape and reignite conflict.
