In a distant future, sentient animals uplifted by humans have become the galaxy's dominant species. The Fant, anthropomorphic elephants exiled to the world of Barsk, develop vital medicines, including koph, which allows communication with the dead. The series follows the Fant as they navigate galactic politics and protect their secrets from those who seek to exploit them.
