In 2026, a supernova and gamma ray burst devastate Earth, destroying microchips and plunging the planet into chaos. The series follows disparate groups of survivors pursuing their own urgent goals amidst the widespread destruction. The second book, set in 2053, depicts Earth's slow recovery from the supernova, now threatened by residual radiation, and features a space colony's effort to protect the planet.
