Anti-Villain

A multi-dimensional character or antagonist who embraces morally reprehensible, villainous actions strictly as a means to achieve ostensibly noble, heroic, or righteous goals.

The thrill of watching a character commit terrible acts for a noble cause. The moral ambiguity of a villain whose heart is in the right place, forcing a reckoning with the darkness required to achieve systemic justice.
