Wayne C. Lee was born in Lamar, Nebraska. Until 1951 he was a farmer, and he noted "writing had to be just a spare-time hobby." Upon becoming a rural mail carrier out of the Lamar post office, he devoted more time to writing, particularly Westerns. Though he did not receive a degree, he took correspondence courses from the University of Nebraska and a writing course in a summer session at Western State College, in Colorado.
