China Miéville
Also known as China Tom MiévilleAbout
China Miéville, born on September 6, 1972, in Norwich, is a celebrated English author renowned for his fantasy fiction works. Often self-described as a writer of "weird fiction," drawing inspiration from early 20th century pulp and horror authors like H.P. Lovecraft, Miéville is a prominent figure among the New Weird genre, a loose group of writers who strive to redefine fantasy by moving away from the commercial, genre-typical tropes associated with Tolkien's epigones. In addition to his literary pursuits, Miéville is an active participant in left-wing politics, serving as a member of the Socialist Workers Party. He has contested for a seat in the House of Commons for the Socialist Alliance and published a book on Marxism and international law. Currently, he teaches creative writing at Warwick University.
